HI THERE. Ok so I have gotten countless messages both on here and on facebook asking how to make my precious blue box, so I decided that I will make a MASTER POST ON MAKING YOUR OWN TIME MACHINE!

Sorry if the instructions are bad - I’m not actually the one who built this so it will by no means be written in builder lingo.

FIRST STEP: Draw a shitty drawing of the lay out

once that’s done, decide on how wide you want it. BEAR IN MIND that when it opens it will double in size so KNOW YOUR LIMITS. If you don’t actually have a library/warehouse/ACTUAL TARDIS to keep this baby in, then please try and keep it roughly to these measurements - or at least reasonable ones.

Then of course remember that once you have built the top masterpiece decoration, and the platform on the bottom, the TARDIS will suddenly become a LOT taller. I don’t have any drawings of those, but it’s basically common sense how to make them anyhow. I could probably do it. Ok no I couldn’t.

Now this book shelf has five hinges on each door - again this is up to you, IN FACT this whole thing is up to you, DO WHAT YOU LIKE MAKE IT 10 HINGES IF THAT’S WHAT FLOATS YOUR BOAT.

As you can probably see here it is VERY close to my wall. Well, in fact, it is ~~screwn (?),~~ it has screws attaching it to the wall, and it has been cut to basically SIT on top of the skirting board seen here:

This is because of the design and weight of the TARDIS, if it isn’t suspended or supported by anything, over time it will begin to shift and sag and that would be a real pity.

The wood we used is 1.5cm thick

Each cubby hole is 29cm tall and the bottom cubby hole is slightly taller - this is to accommodate my study binders so if you don’t want the bottom one larger then it isn’t exactly necessary.

Ok hopefully that covers all the basic building instructions for the main part so here’s just the decoration extras:

The “windows” and square brackets underneath are up to the measurements you see fit - I don’t know how you picture your own TARDIS to look. I believe my neighbour carved them out and then put a length of thin wood behind them to back them, but wouldn’t it be fun to have glass windows?? anyway that’s up to you! I keep trying to upload a photo of the windows but it’s not letting me, but if you desperately need an image you know where to find me!

The signs were fun! We got them printed onto stickers which made the whole thing a LOT easier - aren’t they neat?

And then of course for the light at the top you should be able to find one on ebay :)

Another tip for the decorating - USE OIL PAINT. If you’re a painter by trade then you should be fine but we had a LOT of trouble with paint and ugh just use oil paint, it’s in your best interests, I swear.

If you want to go the extra mile then you can do what we did - MAKE IT MAKE NOISE WHEN YOU OPEN IT!

You’ll need to go to an electrical store but the things you need are:

- 6 volt battery

- A switch (we used an on/off/on switch)

- MP3 player as a module

- Speaker

- Chargers for all of the gear

We also put all of this in a little box, which is optional, but extremely handy as you can see HERE:
